The Property Law Act 1958 and Relationships Act 2008 will apply to de facto relationships that broke down before 1 March 2009. Spousal maintenance and superannuation splitting is not be available and cohabitation agreements are not binding. The Family Law Act 1975 will apply to de facto relationships that break down after 1 March 2009. Spousal maintenance and superannuation splitting will be available and Financial Agreements will be binding.
