The Law Council, the Victorian Bar Association and other legal associations, have responded to a report on legal aid funding by calling on governments to adopt a national approach to legal aid.

In a Law Institute of Victoria media release dated 11 December 2009, Mr David Neal SC, said, "Funding for legal aid is in crisis. We need the federal and state governments to stop the blame game and come up with a national solution for an issue which goes to the heart of the Australian system of justice".
