Family Court orders may prevent the wrongful removal of a child from Australia.

A Family Court order may prevent the wrongful removal of a child from Australia, including an order that:

• A child's passport be retained by a third party, including the Registrar of the Family Court
• The Australian Federal Police place, and retain, a child's name on the Airport Watch List in force at all points of departure from Australia, for the period provided by the order or pending further order;
• A Child Alert Request be provided to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to prevent the issue of an Australian passport or other travel document to a named child;

A court order is recommended where there is a risk that a child may be wrongfully removed, particularly to a country not a signatory to the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction.
