Vanessa Mathews is the founder and managing director of Mathews Family Law & Mediation Specialists, and has the rare combination of social work qualifications and experience, combined with nearly 20 years’ experience as a lawyer and mediator; it makes her approach to resolving  legal relationship issues both sensible and sensitive.

She is a fully accredited family law specialist, mediator, family dispute resolution practitioner and parenting coordinator with a commerce degree – adding a financially astute aspect to her practice.

Vanessa has extensive experience in complex issues that arise from relationship breakdown, and works in partnership with her clients, who regularly describe her as empathetic.

Originally hailing from Adelaide where she studied and practised primarily in family law, Kuppy Nambiar is an accredited family law specialist who has practised in Melbourne since 2000.

She is also an instructor at Melbourne’s Leo Cussen Centre for Law, where she teaches the fundamentals of practising family law to lawyers, law students and legal support staff.

With experience in the legal areas of commercial, personal injury, conveyancing, wills and probate, estate litigation and even a smattering of criminal law, Kuppy is able to deal with the diverse range of issues that can arise during the legal conclusion of relationship breakdown. She deals daily with property settlements, arrangements for children, child support, divorce and injunctions.

Kuppy is known for her focus on the best possible outcome for clients – one that is the most cost effective and least stressful as possible.

Jeremy Hogg

Jeremy commenced his legal career with Mathews Family Law & Mediation Specialists in 2010, following his graduation from Monash University with degrees in Law and Arts, and worked with the firm as a family lawyer until 2014.  After continuing his work in family law at a mid-tier firm for a number of years, Jeremy returned to Mathews Family Law & Mediation Specialists in 2018 as an Accredited Family Law Specialist.

Since commencing practice in 2010 Jeremy has worked exclusively in the area of family law and during that time has acted for clients in all facets of family law including property settlements, parenting proceedings, child support, intervention orders, international and third-party matters.

Jeremy prides himself on providing clients with sensible and cost-effective advice with a sound legal basis, but which does not neglect the human element of family law disputes.

Kristian joined Mathews Family Law & Mediation Specialists in 2016.

Kristian has worked exclusively in the area of family law since commencing practice and during that time has acted for clients in a range of family law areas including property, parenting, child support and intervention orders.

Kristian is focused on providing solid, pragmatic and cost-effective advice whilst being cognizant of the human and emotional aspects of family law. Kristian is fluent in Italian

Emily Cook

Emily began working with Mathews Family Law and Mediation Specialists whilst studying in 2018. She graduated from Deakin University with Honours in 2019, with degrees in Law and Arts. She was admitted to practice in 2020 and is now working as a family lawyer at the firm.

Emily is the first point of contact at the firm and she has gained valuable experience in all areas of family law. She knows that a relationship breakdown can be a challenging time for clients and therefore she prides herself on her ability to approach her work with compassion and understanding.

She is responsible for organising both the Family Dispute Resolution and Mediation practice, as well as Divorce online.

Emily is an active member of the legal profession and is currently a member of:
